In the sequel to the UN Nature Meeting, an agreement was reached on the development of funding supporting biodiversity. The countries are also suitable for reporting, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of nature objectives.

The developing and rich state made a compromise on financial issues at a meeting in Rome.

– This is above all a victory of multilateral cooperation. In a very challenging world political situation, the countries managed to show that, however, a common tune could be found on issues that had been rubbing years. After the difficult negotiations, we have clear steps to proceed to stop the nature loss, the Environmental and Climate Minister for the Finnish delegation Sari Multala (co.) Says in the bulletin.

According to a news release from the Ministry of the Environment, the steps were agreed in Rome, which will be taken at the following nature meetings and between them to improve and increase funding. In addition, the current financial system will be evaluated and its efficiency will be improved.

– Financial flows from different sources must be more effectively directed to nature work. Harmful subsidies need to be addressed, and impressive funding to strengthen nature must be obtained in the future by new means and expanding the funding base, Multala says.

“Concrete steps about goals”

The countries agreed on the current temporary financial mechanism of the agreement, the world’s environmental fund to support international biodiversity measures. Future nature meetings will decide whether to make a funded financial mechanism for the implementation of the contract.

– The results of Rome are quite central to stop the nature loss. Now we have concrete steps about goals, methods and progress plan. The Finnish land report is an important part of implementation and part of global evaluation. The national report will be conducted in the past by extensive cooperation using the Biodiversity Working Group set by the Ministry of the Environment, the Finnish Chief Adviser Marina von Weissenberg says.

This week, the parties to the UN Biodiversity Agreement gathered in Rome, the Italian capital, to continue negotiating matters that were opened last November at the COP16 meeting in Cal, CAL.
