In the city of Helsingborg, contributors must be employed to keep the city clean. The purpose is to help people with financial assistance to approach the labor market, says Head of Unit Valmir Jusufi.

– Unemployment challenges us, which is why we test different methods and working methods to help them get closer to working life. The long -term is very important, he tells TV4 News.

The pilot project starts on May 1 and the employment lasts for six months for the 25 participants who have been selected.

The tasks

The main tasks are to make the environment pleasant and attractive in selected areas. According to Valmir Jusufi, the employment will give the participants the skills to be ready for the next step in working life.

– These are tasks that involve cleaning and picking garbage, keeping it neat and nice in limited areas.

In addition, participants receive continuous advice from coaches that offer support.

– They draw up an individual plan where they put up plans for conversations and support, he says.

Is selected based on suitability

In 2023, 4,168 people in Helsingborg received financial assistance at some point during the year – it places the municipality in third place in the country in terms of unemployment.

– We make a selection of participants based on experiences, suitability and skills so that it becomes the right match, says Valmir Jusufi.

So far, the initiative has received a positive reception from both employees and participants. When the project time is over, the municipality will evaluate the investment to determine if it is worth continuing and in that case increase the scope.

– Many are very curious and the reactions have been very positive, he says.
