Experienced journalist Mika Hentunen is EPNs new Russian correspondent Foreign

EPN’s new Russian correspondent Mika Hentunen is an experienced foreign journalist. Today, he works as EPN’s Asian correspondent in Beijing, China.

Long -line foreign journalist Mika Hentunen has been selected as EPN’s new Russian correspondent.

During his career, Hentunen has worked in seven different countries in addition to his career. For the past two years, he has been a temporary Asian correspondent in Beijing.

In 2017-2022 Hentunen worked as EPN’s US correspondent in Washington. Prior to heading to China, he served as EPN’s NATO specialist.

Hentunen will continue in China for the time being and will start his fixed -term correspondent in Russia as he moves to Moscow.

Russia is a difficult environment for a correspondent

Hentunen says she is eagerly expecting a new challenge in Russia. He feels the future task as the most difficult and challenging of all his correspondence.

– At the moment, I am suspected of what the job will be and what can be done there. However, I look forward to the task and I hope to start working there as soon as possible.

He sees the Russian command as a logical continuation of his experiences in other major powers in the world in the United States and China.

– I have had the feeling that Russia and Moscow would sometimes be fun to experience and see. However, life has always taken a different direction.

“Leap in the dark”

Hentunen is not yet recognized as a real Russian expert, even though he has been studying language for two years.

– Of course I know Russia somewhat and I have followed the country’s situation. However, in many ways, this is also a jump to the unknown.

According to his own words, Hentunen is facing intense study of Russian, both in language and culture. He believes that he is able to repair in Russia’s knowledge of Russia.

– In this world situation, I believe it is an important background to understand the dynamics of the superpowers and how to create a new world order now.

In the coming years, Hentunen wants to tell the Finnish audience in the coming years, all sorts of stories that he can tell in the country’s current environment as a journalist.

– I would like to get out of Moscow as much as possible and tell me what life in Russia looks like and how the Russians are doing.

In addition to Moscow and Beijing, there are correspondents in Washington, Stockholm, London, Brussels, Berlin and Nairobi.
