The severely sick Pope Francis, who has double -sided pneumonia, has had a quiet night, the Vatican announces on Wednesday morning.

The 88-year-old Pope was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on February 14 with difficulty breathing. His condition has since deteriorated.

According to a medical bulletin on Tuesday evening, the Pope’s “clinical condition was still critical but stable”. According to a statement from the Vatican, the Pope, despite his critical state, has followed on church issues from his hospital bed.

“In the morning, after receiving communion, he resumed the activities of the work,” the statement states.

Doctors have stated that the outcome of his health condition is very uncertain because of his age, fragility and a lung disease he has before.
