Does your PC seem soft to you, it reacts slowly or freezes when you launch certain actions? It’s in your best interest to deactivate some options to give it a little boost.
Windows has gained a lot of ergonomics and conviviality since its beginnings in the 90s. The Microsoft operating system has gradually refined its graphical interface over the versions, to be more pleasant to the eye and easier to use. Many visual effects and animations have notably appeared, in order to make navigation more fluid and more intelligible actions.
For example, when reducing a window, it does not disappear all at once, but seems to shrink quickly to its icon in the taskbar. And conversely, when it is displayed again, it gradually reappears (but quickly) from the taskbar, as if it arose. This simple animation allows the brain to better understand what is going on on the screen.
Many other small visual effects dot the system, without necessarily paying attention to it, and thus make graphic objects and their movements more “natural” and understandable. However, these aesthetic animations and keys are delicious in computing power, and can have a significant impact on the fluidity of the operation of certain computers.
This is particularly the case for ancient or inexpensive PCs, which are often devoid of dedicated graphics card and are based solely on the integrated graphic circuit of the central processor for the management of the display. On these configurations, the visual effects and animations of Windows can then produce a result contrary to their initial objective, and make navigation jerky.
If you are in this situation, or if you just find these painful and annoying effects, you can fortunately deactivate them easily. First, you can go to the menu Settings> Accessibility> Visual effects of Windows, to deactivate there Transparency effects and Animation effects. This first “large mesh” modification will deactivate the translucent aspect and the animated movements of the windows and the taskbar, which will give a feeling of instantity to your actions.
But you can go a little further to relieve your computer more. Open the menu To start up, Write the word “performance” then click on the result Set the appearance and performance of Windows. In the window that appears, you will then have the choice between three general options, to choose between the best configuration, the best appearance or the best performance. Each mode will activate a set of predefined visual effects, in order to obtain the most suitable result in terms of aesthetics or performance.
The better appearance option will activate all the visual effects available, at the cost of consumption of increased resources. Conversely, the best performance mode will deactivate them all, to the detriment of the visual aspect. As for the better configuration mode, it will select the set of effects which offers an optimal compromise between performance and visual quality. And of course, you can make your own selection, by checking and unchecking each parameter at your convenience.
Nevertheless, in order to maintain a friendly and pleasant appearance, we advise you to check at least the boxes Show miniatures instead of icons,, Show window contents during their trip and above all Smooth screen fonts. These three options provide significant visual comfort for a minimal impact on computer resources. Of course, you are free to deactivate them if you deem them useless or annoying, and vice versa to activate others if you find them pleasant and practical.
