Jonna Sundling has won the World Cup gold in sprint and sprint relay twice.
Now the reigning world champion tells how she prepares mentally to handle the press for the World Cup in Trondheim.
– Then it also takes full focus from me, she tells the Sports Bible.
Both in Oberstdorf 2021 and in Planica 2023 have Jonna Sundling30, delivered double up. During the last two world championships she has picked the World Cup gold in both the sprint and in the sprint relay, first with Maja Dahlqvist And then with Emma Ribom.
Jonna Sundling’s trick for the World Cup
In other words, she is reigning world champion (she also won Olympic gold in sprint and silver in the sprint relay in 2022) when she steps into the arena in Granåsen, Trondheim, on Thursday when the sprint will be decided.

Of course, there is a lot of pressure on her shoulders for the championship. She is threatened by her national team colleagues Linn SvahnThe Maja DahlqvistThe Johanna Hagström and Emma Ribom as well as by the international stars Kristine Stavås SkistadThe Jessie Diggins and Nadine Fähndrich. Sundling, on the other hand, has a mental trick to ease the turmoil. She tries to forget what has been before and instead tries to look at the challenge with brand new eyes.
– As soon as I have done a competition I thought: “It was that competition. So good or bad it went ”. I usually quickly change and target the new one that is coming, she tells the Sports Bible.
Sundling has a chance at three medals
Her strategy is simply to pretend that she has never been to a World Cup before. It seems to have worked for her earlier.
– The same thing really with the World Cup and Olympic competitions that have been. I have those championships in the track record but it is not so I think so much about what I have done before but I try to start more from scratch and think that: “I have not run the World Cup before but I really want to go there and be so good shape as possible and make it as good as possible. Then it also requires full focus from me, then I cannot focus on what has been. Then I want to go ahead, she says.

The sprint prologue in the ski World Cup starts at 10.00 and the final starts at 12.30. Sundling will also be included in the sprint relay on Wednesday, March 5 and in the relay on Friday, March 7. Hopefully she can take three medals during the championship.
