Signal’s manager: Then we leave Sweden
The government wants Signal and WhatsApp to be forced to store messages sent using the apps.
– If that becomes a reality, we leave Sweden, says Signal’s manager Meredith Whittaker to SVT News.
According to Whittaker, the bill requires that the encrypted message app Signal installs so -called rear doors in the software.
– If you create a vulnerability based on Swedish wishes, it would create a way to undermine our entire network. Therefore, we would never introduce these back doors, she says.
The purpose of the bill – which may be clubbed next year – is that the police and the Security Police should be able to request message history afterwards for people suspected of crime.
The Armed Forces, on the other hand, are negative, and writes in a letter to the government that the proposal cannot be realized “without introducing vulnerabilities and rear doors that may be used by third parties,” reports SVT.

Minister: The Swedish Maritime Administration’s situation is worrying
The Swedish Maritime Administration’s Director General Erik Eklund says in an interview with TT that the current budget deficit means that two out of five helicopter bases are closed, that one of six icebreakers will be taken out of operation and that maintenance is reduced on the maritime trails.
The cut is expected to affect both Sweden’s defense preparedness as well as the sea and air rescue and have major consequences for industry and business.
Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson (KD) says in a written comment to TT that “The Swedish Maritime Administration’s financial situation is very worrying”, and that the authority’s budget documentation should be carefully analyzed in the Government Offices.
“In the current security policy situation, it is of utmost importance that the core of the Swedish Maritime Administration’s important services maintains a full level. As the Swedish Maritime Administration is taking measures to deal with the deficit, it is central that these services are not affected too negatively, ”Carlson said in the statement.
