There was hardly any technical progress in over 10,000 years in Dune and there is a good reason

With the films and the new series of Dune there is new feed for fans and newcomers to the universe. The new series shows what happened over 10,000 years before the new films, and a detail is particularly noticeable: technological progress has hardly changed. The reason for this is a cutting event.

Why has there been no technical progress for so long? If you look at the technology in Dune: Prophecy and the new films from Denis Villeneuve, you can ask yourself why there was no significant technical progress in over 10,000 years.

The reason for this lies in the large slave uprising, which in 201 BG (Before Guild, i.e. the establishment of the space -ledge suits). For comparison: Paul Areides was born much later in 10,176 AG.

In the large slave uprising, people rebelled against the machines that had achieved power. The war ended in 108 BG and resulted in the Bene Gesserit and the spacecring guild. In the war, all thinking machines and the associated technology were destroyed.

This also started a different orientation for the future of humanity, which turned away from machine technology.

Stagnation is good for the empire

How did it go after the war? After the great slave uprising, the technical progress of society stagnated because it is practically not needed. After the big slave uprising, they did not want to rely on thinking machines again.

This is also the case with the Bene Gesserit, the aim of which is to further develop people. That is why they are so strict in training and try to testify to young people with royal families. The Spice resource is essential for the progress of mind and body. One wants to prevent humanity from dying out.

On Spice builds everything and the empire has (together with the spacecring) control over it. In its power position, the empire of course does not want something to change, which is why one stagnated with technical and social progress. There is no reason for progress if everything goes as it should.

The Bene Gesserit also does not want to achieve social progress with their goal. They want to raise the KWisatz Haderach, which is a kind of Messiah and later can be recognized as Paul Areides. But Paul Areides was the first step towards humanity progress and the revolution.

When did people revolution come? Paul Areides was the first starting point to confront the prevailing order. Through his revolution and his war, he challenged the empire and the structures of the political groups by in danger.

But the first technical progress of society was still a long time because Paul and later his son Leto II focused on the mental and physical progress of the people. Only after the end of Leto II did humanity expand again in the universe and slowly also achieved technical progress.
