Salwan Najem appeals to them after Koran burning

“Salwan Najem has only used his constitutional rights. Salwan Najem’s demonstrations are not directed at any group of people. In any case, unreasonable law of law, writes his lawyer Mark Safaryan in the appeal to Svea Court, which was submitted last Friday.

Najem was convicted of four cases of incitement against people, following the notable Qur’an burns he conducted together with Salwan Momika in Stockholm in the summer of 2023.

In connection with the public gatherings, which received a lot of attention internationally and aroused frame screams in large parts of the Muslim world, they wrapped Korans in pork, kicked on them and statement abusive and derogatory about Muslims, according to the prosecution.

In total, Stockholm District Court considered that the demonstrations “at every time” expressed disrespect against the Muslim people group and that the act was not contained within freedom of expression.

Salwan Momika was shot dead in his home the night before the district court judge was announced. No one is arrested for the murder.

Hear freedom of speech expert Nils Funcke about the district court’s judgment, which he believes raises question marks about how far the freedom of expression extends:
