Airlines are increasingly strict on boarding hours. It is generally recommended to arrive at least 2 hours before takeoff for short-coated flights and 3 hours for long-haul. Ryanair, the Irish low-cost, goes even further and requires that the passengers be present at the boarding door 40 minutes before departure, under penalty of being refused boarding.
And from May 1, 2025, Ryanair intends to cling more with a salty fine for latecomers! According to the Dublin Live, the company “advises passengers to appear no later than 40 minutes before the departure time of their flight, under penalty of being struck by a fine of € 120 for missing their flight”. This sanction will also apply to “those who arrive until an hour after the leaving time of the flight in order to try to climb into the next flight”, specifies the Irish media. The Italian newspaper La Stampa confirms these new rules, adding that “the objective is to promote the importance of arriving in advance at the airport and guaranteeing the punctuality of thefts”.
Michael O’Leary, the boss of Ryanair, also announced the end of the paper boarding cards in May 2025. “Our goal is to eliminate registration counters at the airport, as we did with The luggage counters, “he told Dublin Live. “Everything will be managed via the application, making the process entirely digital and completely deleting the paper.” Forget to download your boarding pass (or print it at home) already costs 66 euros today. In two years, travelers will no longer even have this option.
If you plan to travel with Ryanair in 2025, it will be better to be well prepared and punctual!
