It’s time to plant strawberries! And that’s normal! Strawberries, to produce sweet fruits, require nutrients rich for their growth. Sometimes you also have to bring them a boost with a fertilizer, as we would for your indoor plants. Good news, you don’t need to invest in an expensive fertilizer. You certainly already have the ingredients you need in your kitchen to make your own homemade fertilizer. The secret ingredient to boost growth, productivity and taste for your strawberries is simply yeast. And only one spoon is necessary.

Here’s how to prepare your homemade fertilizer and how to use it to get an abundant strawberry harvest. In a bowl, mix a teaspoon of dry yeast and a liter of warm water. You can also add a tablespoon of sugar to your mixture. Let it rest at room temperature for one day, then dilute the preparation obtained: 1 liter of fertilizer for 5 liters of water. Then sprinkle each plant gently with half a liter of this mixture, avoiding wetting the leaves too much. Apply this solution once every two weeks during the growth period.

In addition to improving the structure of the soil, yeast brings vitamins and enzymes that stimulate plant metabolism. Sugar, on the other hand, serves as an energy source for beneficial microorganisms, thus optimizing the availability of essential nutrients such as potassium and magnesium. Result: larger, larger, sweeter and tasty strawberries.
