Queen is one of the most successful rock bands of all time And published 14 albums and six number one hits in almost 20 years. As early as 2002, the musical We Will Rock You showed how great the songs of the British band can be told in a fictional story. Nevertheless, it took another 16 years for her music to be heard in the film. Today the Biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is running on TV.
Bohemian Rhapsody on TV: A shy singer becomes a legend on stage
The film awarded with four Oscars tells the band history of Queen, but focuses primarily on front man Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek). In 1970 the musicians Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon search for a new front man for their band. When the shy Farrokh Bulsara announces his interest, Nobody suspects what powerful voice and fearless stage presence Leaf behind the inconspicuous facade. The great success soon appears and one hit hunts the next, but the fame also contains dark sides for the band, but above all for Freddies.
Captivating biopic that does not remain without criticism
If only because of the great hits, it is worth seeing Bohemian Rhapsody and learning more about the creative processes of the band and songs. The centerpiece is Rami Malek with his rightly Oscar-crowned performance, which captivates the audience and brings us back a piece of Freddie.
But the turbulent production phase also left traces. So director Bryan Singer was fired during the filming. The strong CGI effects were not without criticism, especially during the legendary Live Aids concert and the 1,000 cuts that leave you dizzy.
Bohemian Rhapsody is not as round and full of taboo breaks as the Elton John-Biopic Rocketman, but the film is absolutely worth seeing and takes us back into the magic of a legend that still inspires millions of people.
