A death in knife attack in France

One person has been killed and two police officers have been seriously injured in a knife attack in the city of Mulhouse south of Strasbourg in eastern France, says Prosecutor for AFP.

According to Le Parisia, a perpetrator with a knife must have attacked passersby in a market in the city at 16 on Saturday afternoon. The perpetrator could be arrested at the scene in connection with the attack.

The incident must have occurred shortly after the arrested refused to sign a judicial review at the Mulhouse police station.

The injured police have been cut “in the carotid artery” and “in the chest”, prosecutor Nicolas Heitz told AFP. Another three police officers have been mildly injured in the attack, says Heitz.

“Horror has hit our city,” writes Mulhouse Mayor Michele Lutz on Facebook.

Investigates terrorotive

Several French media reports that the perpetrator is a 37-year-old Algerian citizen. According to AFP, they must have been an expulsion decision against the man.

During the act he must have shouted “Allahu Akbar”, according to information to the French newspaper Le Parisia.

AFP reports that the perpetrator has been on a terror list and that he is known by police before. Among other things, he must have been in house arrest for terror -related crimes and been under surveillance.

The Prosecutor’s Office in France states in a press release that it is investigating terror motifs and that the case has been handed over to the authority’s anti -terrorism unit.

Macron: “Islamist terrorist act”

France’s President Emmanuel Macron has also commented on the incident and says it is “beyond doubt” that it is an “Islamist terrorist act”.

Earlier in February, a similar attack took place in the city of Villach in Austria. Then a 14-year-old boy died after a perpetrator randomly attacked passersby with a knife.
