French police should search through pupils’ bags

French police will start to make random scanning for bags at schools in search of knives and other weapons, says Education Minister Elisabeth Borne on Friday.

The decision is justified by the fact that knife cuts have become “much more common”, says Borne.

The scanning starts in the spring and is carried out by police as school staff are not entitled to visit students.

In early February, a 17-year-old student was seriously injured after a knife cutting at his school in Bagneux southwest of Paris.

In an area north of the capital, where crime is above average, about 20 high school and upper secondary schools have been placed under police surveillance. According to the authorities, it is to “prevent a repetition of violent acts” after a series of incidents in Paris.

Several trains are completely still on the route between Jönköping and Stockholm on Friday, while other trains were hit by major delays.

    – All trains on the southern main line between Malmö and Stockholm are affected, says Felicia Danielsson, press spokesman at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Later, the trains start rolling, and SJ promises that everyone will arrive, although there may be delays.

    – All trains are now rolling towards Malmö and Stockholm. When it comes to the signal error, you can run full speed on one track, but with lowered speed on the other. How much traffic impact it means is hard to say, the best thing is to check trains for trains on our website, says Jonas Olsson, Press Manager at SJ.

At present, there is no information on when the signal error should be fixed.
