35-year-old leftist Gabriel Boric becomes Chile’s new president

Left-wing candidate Gabriel Boric won the Chilean presidential election.

Boric’s far-right rival, José Antonio Kast, conceded defeat an hour and a half after the polls closed and about half of the votes were counted.

Most of the votes have been counted.

According to the current situation, Boric received 55 percent of the votes in the second round of the elections, while his closest rival Kast received 44 percent of the votes.

The election has been one of the most polarized in recent years and comes after massive anti-government protests.

Boric and Kast are seen as two candidates at the far end of the political spectrum, left and right.

The two candidates had completely different visions for the country, and both represented political parties that had never been in government.

Boric, 35, will become one of the youngest political leaders in the world and the youngest president in Chilean history.
