Corsica: a 19 -year -old woman mistakenly killed in Ponte Leccia, the investigators’ work track

Corsica a 19 year old woman mistakenly killed in Ponte

A 19-year-old was killed by bullets when she was driving her companion’s vehicle to Ponte-Leccia to Haute-Corse, Saturday, February 15. The murder could be linked to organized crime.

A young woman could have the victim of an ambush by mistake. While driving the car usually used by her spouse, a 19-year-old was hit by bullets, Saturday February 15 shortly before 10 p.m., in the village of Ponte-Leccia, in Haute-Corse. She died of her injuries. The driver who was alone inside the vehicle was a student from the University of Corte, located a few kilometers away.

The first elements of the investigation have not yet made it possible to identify the perpetrators of the gunshots, nor to determine their motivations, but the Bastia prosecutor’s office still seems to lean for a mistake linked to the actors of crime organized in Corsica. “As it stands, no hypothesis can be completely excluded or privileged, but it is very likely that the victim targeted was not that sought by the shooters in a very evocative context of the actions of the great organized crime,” Explained Jean-Philippe Navarre, public prosecutor of Bastia, in a press release.

An investigation was opened

The facts took place at the exit of a home, located by the road, explains Corsica morning. According to the first elements of the investigation, the young woman was taken in an ambush, of which she would not have been the target. So did the attackers after the victim’s companion? It is a planned track, but not yet confirmed. The Bastia prosecutor’s office did not indeed say anything about the victim’s companion, except that he was the main user of the vehicle in which the young woman was killed.

An investigation was opened for voluntary homicide in an organized gang. It was entrusted to the services of the Corsican research section and the DIPN (Interdepartmental Directorate of the National Police) in Haute-Corse, reports The Parisian. This is the third homicide by bullets committed in Corsica since the beginning of the year, counts Corsica morning. The prefects of Corsica and Haute-Corse, Jérôme Filippini and Michel Prosic, condemned “with the greatest firmness” this act which is part of “a context of violence maintained by groups linked to organized crime”.
