The Danish government wants to increase the country’s defense budget to three percent of GDP, reports Berlingske.

The Danish newspaper will find that the government will soon present a plan for investments that will apply during the years 2025 and 2026.

The money will be used in areas identified as the most urgent, according to information to the Danish newspaper Weekendavisen.

The increase takes place, among other things, with a background in this weekend’s security conference in Munich, where US representatives announced that US forces in Europe should not be taken for granted. At the same time, the Danish Defense Intelligence Service has assessed that Russia’s capacity in the near future to wage war against other European countries increases if there is peace or ceasefire in Ukraine and the United States is no longer willing to defend Europe.

At present, the defense budget, including military support for Ukraine, is 2.4 percent of GDP.
