Streamer receives generous donation from a spectator – Twitch suddenly owes 230 euros

After the extremely generous donation of a viewer on Twitch, a streamer suddenly had 250 euros in debt on the platform.

Who is this? The Twitch streamer is called VIIKI, sits in the UK and streaming in addition to video games (especially Minecraft) in the “Just Chatting” category. She is appreciated by her viewers because of her humor and energetic personality.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Viiki told an incident on February 12 that cost her a lot of money. This occurred of all things when she received a big donation from a viewer.

Spectators show off with a big donation – then calls for it back

How did that happen? The streamer describes the event as follows: While her stream was on the front page of Twitch, a new spectator was added. He hung around in the stream for 6 or more hours and started to brag about his money in chat. He then donated Subs and bits worth around 235 euros, which the streamer accepted with a lot of thanks.

However, later, however, he is said to have started to harass their community and agency – he “forgot that he has to pay other bills” and therefore need the money back.

Can you ask for the money from donations? As a rule, Donations cannot be refunded on Twitch. Exceptions are only made if there were technical difficulties, the purchase was fraudulently carried out or a reimbursement is otherwise necessary (via Twitch).

Despite the rather strict guidelines of Twitch, the viewer got his money back and Viiki remained on debt of around € 230. “So now I will stream for the foreseeable future to repay the debts that I shouldn’t have at all,” she continues in the post.

For the streamer, Twitch’s approach represents a dangerous precedent: “This means that we can now give away all subscriptions to channels and simply get the money back because why not?” Now she no longer trusts and bits that she has shown become.

After all: Just a day later, namely on February 13th, VIIKI had settled the debt again with the help of donations from her viewers. Another streamer actually wanted to get out of debt with Twitch, but after a 4-month break he now says: “Have nothing in life”.
