Beavers saved millions to taxpayers

The rodents have built a pond that is good much larger than the person intended to construct, thereby not only built protection for threatened crayfish in the river but saved the taxpayers equivalent to over SEK 10 million.

The new dam also creates wetlands that are protected from acidified water.

After their work, the beaver family has moved to a river, where they have built another four dams that protect the wetlands.

As a bonus, the building has made the neighborhoods of the area complain of the beavers, who previously attacked the peasants’ trees but now stays at the new pond.

– We do not expect any new conflicts with the beaver within the next ten years, says Bohumil Fiser at the Czech Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
