From January 1, 2025, textile waste must be sorted out and collected separately.
– Textiles and textile waste must be recycled in a more responsible way, as they cause major damage both to the environment and they also contribute to aggravating climate change throughout the world. It is completely unsustainable. That is why we now ensure that the raw material from clothing and other textile products is recycled in a better way, said Minister of Climate and Environment Romina Pourmokhtari in a press release after the government has decided on the new requirement.

Nygren continues:
– However, there may be local regulations that limit or prohibit fire. Therefore, contact your municipality to know what applies where you live.
What will be the main differences in practical terms for gardeners?
– It will look a little different in different municipalities whether there is any difference to before or not. It depends on what the local regulations mean in the individual municipality. So our advice to private individuals is to look at the municipality’s website or contact their municipality to know what applies where you live.

At the same time, Erika Nygren states that the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency also gets a lot of questions about how Majbrasor.
– The regulations mean that sorted garden and park waste may be fired, if the fire takes place in connection with a public gathering or public event that has been granted a permit under the Ordinance Act, which includes heating.
Important to consider, according to Nygren, is that you have to handle garden and park waste that contains invasive foreign species in a way so that they are not spread.
– Therefore, they should not be composted, nor are they fired on the site, as germable plant parts can survive.
