Google announced this change on February 11 and said US users will now see the name “Gulf of America” on the maps.
Users in Mexico continue to see this name, while users in other countries will be able to see both names.
Trump’s Decree and “Gulf of America”
Trump instructed the government to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to “America Gulf” with the decree he signed at the White House on January 20th.
“President Trump brings common sense to the government and renews the foundations of American civilization,” the decree was used.
In a statement he made on February 9, Trump flew over the Gulf of Mexico, declared this date as “America Gulf Day”.
With this incident, the new name was thought to increase the symbolic effect of Trump in the region.
What is Google’s description?
Google said in a statement on January 28th, said that he has long been watching a policy for implementing names changes in official state sources.
In this context, it was announced that the name “Gulf of Mexico” was changed to “Gulf of America” on Trump’s instructions and that the name of the Denali Mountain in Alaska would be updated as “McKinley”.
