The Only Canadian Cities More Exposed Than Brantford to the Potential Impact Are Saint John, NB, Calgary, Windsor and Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo.
“What works well for us in good Times-Like Our Great Economic Partnerships-Creates Exposure in Uncertain Times,” David Prang, CEO of the Chamber of Brantford-Brant, Said on Tuesday.
Brantford’s Automotive Parts Manufacturing and Its Agri-Food Industry have formed Good Cross-Border Relationships that are now in jeopardy, he said.

“Businesses Thrive with Certainty and the Ability to Plan But No Amount of Planning can prepare Us for What Might Happen Next.”
As such, Mayor Kevin Davis is forming a working group to strengthen Brantford’s “Economic Resilience” by Looking at the Risks and Potential Solutions to the Tariffs, Developing Strategic Actions and Working with Businesses.
Davis is also using his strong Mayors Act Authority to Direct Staff to consider amendments to the City’s procure Bylaw and adopting to ‘Canada First’ Approach.
“Every Purchasing Decision Matters Now More Than Ever,” Said Davis in a News Release.
“Like other mayors across Ontario, I Urge residents to shop local (and) buy canadian whenever possible.
The Trade and Procurement Working Group Will Look at Limiting City Contract Renewals and New Contracts to Canadian-Only Companies where Legally possible; Pausing and Reasessing American Vendor Relationships; Prioritizing Canadian Goods and Services Companies, Ending All Non-Essential Staff Conferences Or Trips To The United States Unless they are efforts to influence Tariff Removal, and Looking Into Costs and possible Funding Sources for Importing Tariffs Respons.

“We Responded Well to Covid So, Let’s Take Those Resources and That Ingenuity and Apply It To This Situation.”
Prang Said Discussions With Some Local Manufacturers Show they have been planning for a “Worst Case Scenario” since Trump Began Talking About Tariffs Before His Inauguration.
“It’s Always Good to look at what you can control, included your costs and who you purchase from.”
The chamber is advocating for Canada to Elimate Internal Trade Barriers Among the Provinces As A First and “Easy” Thing that WOULD HELP A LOT.

“Buy Local, Sell Local, Work With the Economic Development Department of the City and the Chamber and Tell Us About the Tariff Impacts On Your Company So We Can Advocate for Better Solutions.”
PRANG Expects It Will Take Three To Six Weeks Before Local Companies See The Real Impact of Tariffs and It Will Take Three to Six Months to Normalize If they are reversed,
“We Survived Four Years Of Trump Four Years Ago By Using A Reasoned, Measured Response and this is not Better or Worse – Just Different in How Quickly It’s Moved. The Us Economy Doesn’t Understand How’re Going to Be Damaged and Impact. ”
Meanwhile, prang urges non-business people to help the situation by being thoughtful consumers.
“It could be as simple as redirecting a few dollars a weekend to buy local or gooir totally local. And Travel Dollars Say A Lot, So Use Funds Locally to Support Our Local Business Economy. ”
