(Finance) – The Temporary grouping of competitors (RTC) formed by Ansaldo Energia, Hitachi Energy and the new partner dedicated to civil infrastructures Lucante Mario Spahe won two lots of a public tender launched by Terna. The RTC has signed an order from Terna for five synchronous compensators, for a total value of approximately 300 million euros.
The purpose of supplying Ansaldo Energia includes The design, supply, commissioning and maintenance and assistance activities of five synchronous compensators from 250 mvar each, to be installed and put in service within the next 5 years. With this acquisition, the number of compensators synchronous of Ansaldo Energia Operational Energy in Italy will rise to 15, distributed in 13 plants.
The synchronous compensator allows you to regularly and with high precision the reactive power exchanged with the network, in order to improve the voltage profiles, while providing significant contributions to the power of short circuit of the network. The synchronous compensators are also able to provide an important contribution of inertia to the electrical network by making it more stable and avoiding sudden changes in tension or frequency. All new synchronous compensators will be equipped with “flywheel“, Innovation designed and made by Ansaldo Energia capable of increasing the inertia of the rotating system by minimizing mechanical losses thanks to an empty chamber that minimizes the losses caused by the friction of the air.
The synchronous compensators are a strategic qualifying resource for the electrical system with an energy transition perspective, providing an essential contribution to the safety management of the network and the massive integration of renewable sources.
“This project confirms the commitment of the Ansaldo Energia group in ensuring the stability of the electrical network in the face of the growing diffusion of systems from renewable sources, by their nature subject to discontinuity and non -programmability of the power paid”, declares Stefano Gianatti, Executive Vice President Thermal New Units of Ansaldo Energia.
