The distribution of full hours and off -peak hours will change in 2025 to take advantage of renewable energy sources. The key, potential savings for consumers who will adapt to new schedules.
The hollow full / hour system (HP-HC) will experience a significant change in 2025. This electricity price modulation mechanism according to the time of the day, which concerns more than 14 million households in France, will indeed evolve to adapt both to the growing production of electricity of photovoltaic origin and to new household consumption habits.
Currently, customers who have taken out an HP-HC type electricity supply contract benefit from a reduced kilowatt hour rate (kWh) on an eight-hour range. For 60 % of them, these eight hours are consecutive and placed at night, generally between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. For the remaining 40 %, off -peak hours are divided into two beaches, including at least five consecutive hours at night and the rest during the day.
On the proposal of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), this off-peak distribution between day and night will extend to more households and, above all, the daytime beach will be moved at the start or mid-afternoon . This change aims to take full advantage of the production capacities of photovoltaic electricity, whose capacity is maximum during this period of the day.
In addition, daytime and nighttime jackets will be able to vary in the year depending on the season. Concretely, the overall volume of off -peak hours will remain unchanged, with eight hours in total and still at least five consecutive hours at night, wedged between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. depending on the region. As for off -peak hours during the day, they will be divided between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., again depending on the region and the periods of the year.
According to its estimates, CRE estimates that this new distribution of hours will be beneficial for the electrical distribution network, and that homes will be able to save as soon as they shift at least 30 % of their consumption on hollow beaches. The Commission specifies, however, that between 1.4 and 3.5 million households will remain on a hollow hour system entirely at night, a priori those whose night beach is from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The new distribution will gradually enter into force from November 1, 2025 and until the end of 2027. Suppliers will have to warn their customers for the change of time slot at least one month before their implementation. Like any unilateral contractual change, this modification should open up the possibility of a free termination in the event that the new conditions do not suit you.
