Former top hockey player and coach Sami Kapanen has been operating in the Philadelphia Flyers organization in recent years.
In the NHL club, he was responsible for the player development of reservations in Europe and the player’s player monitoring. There was a lot to watch the game.
This season, Kapanen noticed that he was in need of coaching tasks.
– I have had to consider what the puck and work are doing with it. When I have been watching games, I have experienced dissatisfaction with the lack of feeling. Through this, the idea of returning to coaching has aroused and the further the season has gone, the stronger the feeling has become, Kapanen said.
– It went to the point where I started to bring myself to certain parties. In the end, however, I surprised me how quickly it became a concrete option for jumping.
What Kapanen jumped involved was the role of the Pelicans head coach, to which he was selected today. The agreement will cover the end of this season and next season.
The coaching desire was also increased by the fact that a few weeks ago, Kapanen was on the ice with the Flyers’ Farm Farm team Lehigh Valley Phantoms on the ice.
– It aroused emotions and thoughts about everyday life as a coach. This made it easy to jump into this.

Through Flyers’ work, Kapanen has followed the SM League and Pelicans. Especially lately, when the coaching task began, he has watched a lot of Pelicans games.
– Team composition and potential are known. There should be no shocking surprises here.
The Pelicans season has been a great disappointment. The team is staying in the league the previous one. What does Kapanen see the reason for it?
– There is no one explanatory problem. Yes, many things work. At the moment, the Lock is certainly the biggest thing. The team’s own and external expectations have not been achieved, so you can see overtime and lack of relaxation.
According to Kapanen, the course is turned one step at a time and by talking to the players. No complete renovation will be done at this stage.
Kapanen’s first match in Pelicans is on Wednesday in Oulu against Kärppi. Today, Monday, he has already had a start -up meeting with the team. On Tuesday we will practice more and prepare for Wednesday’s match.
