Romanian president Klaus Johannis has announced that it will resign. The difference will take effect on Wednesday.
The country’s parliament was to vote on the President’s post on Tuesday.
“In order to save Romania and its citizens from the crisis, I resign as President of Romania,” Johannis said.
The Johannis season was expected to end on 21 December. However, in December, the Romanian Constitutional Court invalid the result of the first round of the country’s presidential election.
The reason was the suspect in Russia’s election impact. According to the court, the first round must be reorganized to ensure the accuracy and legality of the election process.
Romania is scheduled to hold new presidential elections in May. The country’s Supreme Court has previously stated that John should remain in office until his successor is clear. However, Parliament’s extreme right -wing parties began to put pressure on the president to resign in January.
Director of the Liberal Party and President of the Parliament Ilie Bolojan temporarily accepts the president’s duties with limited powers to the elections.
The invalidation of the elections pulled the country’s policy confused
In December, the cancellation of the elections pushed into the country’s political turmoil. The first round was won by the Russian-minded comments Calin Georgescu. He has also been estimated to be extreme right-wing and NATO critical.
President Johannis later ordered secret intelligence to be published after the voids that Russia had directed thousands of social media accounts to support Georgescu, for example, in Tiktok, and the message service on Telegram.
Russia has denied that it has influenced the elections. Georgescu has also rejected the accusations and considers them as an attempt to prevent his choice as president.
Georcescu appealed to the EU Court of Human Rights, but the appeal was dismissed.
