Athletics: Grant Fisher set a world record of 3,000 meters: “A little scary”

Fischer was in the lead and pressed. With three laps left (600 meters), Hocker, Olympic champion of 1,500 meters in Paris, went up and drove. However, Fisher could respond in the last curve and win the race and win the race between Olympic medalists.

– It was something for the history books. Hocker is a really good rival and it was nice to beat him. We ran very fast and I am very happy, says Fisher to the organizer of the Millrose Games.

Fisher came home from the Paris Olympics with bronze at both 5,000 and 10,000 meters.

Even hockey under the last world record

– It was nice that he passed by with a couple of laps left and that I could chase him and wait out the right time. When it was 50 meters left and I challenged the reigning Olympic champion at 1,500 meters it felt a little scary but I managed it, says Fisher.

The previous world record had Ethiopian Lamecha Girma with 7.23.81 from French Lievin 2023. Hocker’s 7.23.14 was clear under the previous record.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen has the world record out with 7.17.55 from Chorzow last year.
