The surrender of the hostage to the Red Cross took place on the Salah al-Din road, the large country road that runs throughout the Gaza Strip, reports media.
The extremist Palestinian movement has made every release a propaganda number, where hostage is paraded on a stage surrounded by large crowds of threatening militia. Last week, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted strongly to it, and paused the release of prisoners for a few hours in protest against how the hostage was treated.
Later today, 183 prisoners are expected to be released on the West Bank. All are Palestinian men, and many are convicted by Israel for serious terrorist and violence.
The release takes place every week, as part of the ceasefire Israel and Hamas agreed in the Gaza War in mid -January. The settlement will last for six weeks. Then a new phase will take over, but it has not yet been negotiated. And new question marks have arisen around upcoming steps, since US President Donald Trump claimed this week that his country will take over the Gaza Strip.
