– It’s a smaller and smoother airport – and now it is easy to get here too. I think we can compete, says airport manager Nils Funke.
For several years, Region Skåne has tried to achieve functioning public transport to Skåne’s largest airport.
At the same time, the number of travelers to and from the airport has dropped. That from most parts of Skåne it is easier to get to Copenhagen Airport Kastrup believes both the airport and the region contribute.
But thanks to the new train station in Svedala, the opportunity to connect the airport with the rest of public transport in Skåne is now revealed.
A new bus line will operate the route was thirty minutes from the summer of 2026.
Price tag: Five to six million
The region is responsible for the cost. According to preliminary calculations, the new bus line is expected to land between SEK 5 and SEK 6 million, says the Public Transport Committee chairman Carina Zachau (M).
– And then it depends on how many travelers we get that can contribute through ticket revenue, she says.
Today, around 70 percent of those traveling to and from Malmö Airport with their own car, says airport manager Nils Funke. A large part of travelers on the new bus line are expected to consist of airport staff. However, how many bus travelers will be in total can neither Swedavia nor Region Skåne Sia about.
“Doubt it will pay off”
Social Democrat Andreas Schönström, who represents the opposition in the public transport committee, is skeptical of the investment.
– I doubt this will pay off. We have a number of Scanian resorts where Skånetrafiken finds difficult to operate because it does not carry and where you have around a thousand inhabitants, ie about as many who work at Sturup, says Schönström.
