The United States to set the International Criminal Court (ICC) General Prosecutor For Karim Khan sanctions, says Reuters news agency, referring to two anonymous sources.
Khan was named sanctions under US President Donald Trump Annex to the implementation order signed on Thursday, which is not yet public.
Sanctions include travel restrictions and financial restrictions.
US critical for ICC
Under the UN -US agreement, Khan should be able to travel to New York regularly to report to the Security Council on cases he has dealt with in court. Khan visited New York last week, when he gave a situation in Sudan’s situation.
The United States has been critical of the ICC and has not participated in or accepted its jurisdiction. It is also not a member of the ICC.
Trump ordered sanctions on Thursday at the same time as Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Nethanjahu visited Washington. ICC has issued an arresting order for Netanyahu, who praised Trump on Thursday’s decision.
