The Finnish women’s cheerleading team won its fourth consecutive World Championship gold medal at the World Championships in cheerleading in Orlando, USA, the night before Saturday. The profit came off with a clear difference to the United States.
The bronze suddenly went to Germany.
– The last three years have been such a roller coaster that this is the perfect coronation for this trip, Reenkola continued.
Also head coach Maria Wahlroos praised the performance of his protégés.
– Today the team achieved the best performance ever imagined. The team’s World Cup final performance was a completely insane bet and now the feeling is in line with it, Wahlroos glowed.
Last minute changes to the program
An injury to the team forced the cheerleading team to change their program at the last minute.
– With a few changes, we were able to put together such a world championship program. There was little twist and excitement until the end! Reenkola laughed.
– We have had a lot of challenges this season as well, the season has by no means been easy. It reflects this team that we were able to perform like this today, Häkkinen said.
For the fourth time in a row, Finland left the United States to control the species. The team has not yet had enough time to win.
– (Tastes better) better! It just won’t ever become the norm. It’s the decision of every team and story. It feels just as great if not better every time, Reenkola assured.
There are countless hours of work behind the success.
– We do quite a lot of things together. One that sets us apart from many other teams is how much we do in front of everything but skill. We invest an insane amount in team spirit. At camp meetings, we talk a lot more than just skills, Häkkinen opened.
Finland managed to celebrate the world championship in front of the public for a long time. In 2020, the medals were not distributed due to the corona and last year the race was held virtual.
Häkkinen admitted that he was excited to perform in front of an audience.
– Today, in particular, there was a completely insane audience, it had been missed. I don’t know if I just remember, or if the audience hasn’t been as loud in the past as it is today.
The team planned to celebrate the World Cup gold by eating and swimming.
– We eat at the hotel and the coaches at least have access to the pool. Probably us athletes too!
In addition to the women’s cheerleading team, other Finnish teams also excelled. All the adult national teams reached the top three when the mixed national team and the dance national team reached the World Championship bronze.
In the junior World Championships, Finland won silver from the girls’ cheer series.
