The Assembly adopted, this Thursday, February 6, at first reading a bill to strengthen restrictions on the right of the soil in Mayotte, a text carried by the right, supported by the government and the national rally, and which was hardened following the adoption in the confusion of an amendment by the Ciottiste group.
According to this text, obtaining French nationality for children born in Mayotte will be conditioned at regular residence on French soil of “two parents” (and no longer one), for three years (and not more than three months). The initial text planned to extend the period of residence required for one year, but left -wing deputies voted by mistake an amendment extending it to three years – what the Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, promised to correct Senate, faced with the risk of censorship of the Constitutional Council.
