No Bail Yet for Two Accused of Arson

Two Norfolk Men Accused of Multiple Counts of Arson Are Still in Custody After Video Court Appearances This Week.

Chad Reimer, 43, and Matthew Smith, 30, Appeared by Video Separaly on Wednesday and Were Each Remanded Again.

Reimer Will Return on Feb. 7 and Smith on Feb. 25.

The Men Were Arrested Jan. 26 After Police and Fire Officials Responded to Fire, Later Deemed Suspicious, at a vacant barn, on lynn valley road in Haldimand County.

The Opp, Who Had Set Up A Joint Task Force To Investigate 13 Possible Arsons, Said A Pickup that was stopped the description of a vehicle seen near a previous suspicious fire in November.

After Another Suspicious Fire – At a Highway 24 Gas Station on Jan. 21 WHERE FLAMES SPREAD TO A Nearby Occupied Home – Police Learned a Very Thin White Man, Who Looked to Be About 30 was seen Running from the scene, wearing a hoodie and a face Covering. The Two Men Have not Been Charged in Connection to That Fire.

Police Believe the Same suspects we involved in “Multiple similar incidents throughout Norfolk County Between November 2024 and January 2025.”

While Police Declined to Identify the Properties Involved in the accusations Against Smith and Reimer, Court Documents Show they have been loaded in connection with these rentals:

Nov. 12 – A Vacant House and Barns on Windham East Quarter Line Road

Nov. 13 – A Barn on Windham Road 13

Nov. 26 – A Barn On 14th Street West in Simcoe, and A Vacant House in Langton on 10th Concession Road.

Dec. 11 – A Barn on Highway 24, Townsend

Dec. 19 – Two Barns in Waterford, concession 10 Townsend

Dec. 27 – A Vacant House on St. John’s Road West, Simcoe

Jan. 6 – A Greenhouse North of Delhi on Windham Road 11

Jan. 21 – A vacant house near waterford on concession 6

Jan. 22 – In Barn on Teeterville Road at Brantford Road

Jan. 26 – A Barn on Lynn Valley Road

Police have Said Further charges may be ugly.
