In Bordeaux the town hall decides to enlighten the city

The town hall of Bordeaux made the decision to return to the extinction of public lighting at night, responding to a request from its inhabitants.

Bordeaux reverse. Or at least, in part. Since January 2023, the city led by the ecologist mayor Pierre Humic had acted the extinction of public lighting over part of the tracks between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. In addition to the ecological convictions of the town hall, this decision had been made while the energy crisis and inflation were in full swing. If the community is delighted to have achieved by less than 1.262 million euros in savings for two years, it has however slightly returned at the start of the year to this device.

From March 31, Bordeaux, who claims to be above all “listening to the inhabitants”, decided that the “set of light points will remain on until 2:30 am”. In question, the concerns around the safety of the inhabitants brought to return late to their home, in the dark of the streets. The niche 1 a.m.-10 am was particularly requested by the Bordeaux, reports the city on its website. And for good reason, by turning off at 1 am, many streets found themselves plunged into darkness even before the bars closed.

If the time slot during which public lighting will be in office will be slightly elongated, the city of Bordeaux also announces that new “strategic” streets will also be rolled throughout the night. And the town hall ensures: “In the coming months, 90% of night journeys will light up in Bordeaux.”
