Chief developer of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 complains about Metacritic and a review that messes up the cut

Despite numerous top ratings for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, chief developer Daniel Vávra is the order of the mood. A test messes up the cut on Metacritic.

How does the role -playing game arrive? While the players have been allowed to play since 5 p.m. (the game with over 120,000 active players in the top 10 is on Steam alone), dozens of editors and content creators have already published their final conclusion about Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. The cut is currently 87 or 88 (depending on the platform). There are currently 89 on OpenRitic.com.

Compared to the first part, which is currently 68 to 76 (via metacritic.com) or 72 (opencripatic.com), this is an enormous leap forward. There is even great praise for industry veterans such as Chris Avellone (Planescape: Torment, Baldur’s Gate, Fallout: New Vegas), which even briefly spent the otherwise loud Daniel Vávra (via Reddit).

Then why scolds Vávra? When it comes to the majority of the previous reviews, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 deserves a 90s or even more. However, a few outliers press the cut below the 90, with the chief developer being a criticism in the side: the devastating 50 from Gameshub.

The responsible editor explains in his quote for Metacritic.com:

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a game that is outrageously demanding that he will be encountered at eye level, which I find somehow admirable. I only found it constantly as a miserable plack shop, in which everything was inflated ten times more than it should actually be. There is a fascinating sandpit deep inside, but digging through the mountain of dirt to appreciate it was simply more than I could endure most of the time.

Daniel Vávra’s angry reaction followed on X: “A trustworthy news source. Mission fulfilled. We no longer have a 90%metatic rating. Be proud of your excellent journalistic standards! “

In a second post on X, the developer then criticizes the dependence on Metacritic: “Opencript is so much better than Metacritic. More reviews, more options, more information. It is a shame that gamerankings were swallowed by Metacritic. And it is a shame that many modern websites remove many user options to be more accessible. ”

What is behind the trouble? Although one should always question average ratings (for example because they can be manipulated, for example, by targeted review bombing), they serve as an important parameter within industry that can be directly colored on areas such as marketing, reporting or even bonus payments. That is the rather sober consideration.

Developers who have invested several years and a lot of passion in a game, of course, consider the ratings with a lot more emotionality. You can understand the anger from this perspective if almost all of your “baby” celebrate, but a few exceptions literally put it down.

The truth also includes that ratings are always subjective, and that there are also other editorial offices that only come to a 60 or 70. In addition, Gameshub is a fairly small online magazine, around 250,000 visits a month. The EUROGAMER 60s ranking hurts more (9.7 million sessions a month).

And: These few, rather negative reviews, will hardly have an impact on the sales. The first number of players and the enormous hype around the release should already be clear that KCD2 will be a millionder.

Wasn’t there anything with Daniel Vávra? With all of this, one should not forget that the chief developer has already noticed with his statements in the past and had to put up with allegations of racism and the allegation of a certain Gamergate closeness (you read more about this with the colleagues of the Gamestar).

Before the launch of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, he flew around his ears again, but this time because the second part is suddenly “to Woke” and Vávra, according to the right corner. You can read more about this here: The boss comments on the accusation that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is Woke, so pre -sales on Steam are therefore breathing in
