Instagram is currently testing a long -standing expected function by users: the possibility of pause the reels, as Tiktok already does, his great competitor. It was high time!

For several years now, Instagram has transformed all of its videos into reels, short videos in vertical format to scroll to infinity, in order to copy Tiktok and its insolent success. The social network subsequently deployed a whole bunch of new functions, such as the possibility of creating reels from stories, remix options, adding filters or access to a large musical library. However, there is one thing that it lacks in relation to its competitor, and which is sorely felt: the possibility of putting the video in break.

Indeed, on Instagram, it is impossible to stop in full viewing, whether following an outdoor interruption, to follow a tutorial or a cooking recipe. There is no choice but to reread the video in its entirety. Suffice to say that it is hardly practical … but it could soon change! According to the CNBCMeta would be testing the function with a small number of users on the whole globe, without there being any deployment date. It was time!

Instagram reels: a simple finger press to pause

To put a real in a break, it will be enough to pressure the finger on the screen. A gesture that so far allows you to cut the sound of the video. To break it, you have to keep your finger pressed on the screen, but viewing resumes as soon as it is lifted. An operation which is far from logical and, above all, practical, and which is castigated by many users.

This new function arrives at a timely moment, since Tiktok’s fate in the United States is more than uncertain. After a brief unavailability in early January, the Chinese social network is suspended until April 5, when it could be definitively prohibited – it is already unavailable on Apple and Google application stores.

“We are going to see what will happen with Tiktok, and whatever it is, I expect the reals on Instagram and Facebook to continue to grow”said Mark Zuckerberg, during a call with analysts on Wednesday. Meta has also announced a new video editing application called Édits, responsible for competing with Capcut de Bytedance. The social network will also soon adopt a display grid for profiles promoting vertical content, and no longer squares – which makes certain users and promises to generate a certain mess.
