Here is the first spade tag for a new test reactor in Oskarshamn

At OKG in Oskarshamn, Sweden’s first electrical test reactor is built in over 40 years, sealer-e, with lead cooling. The project is led by the company Blykalla in collaboration with Uniper, ABB and KTH, and has received SEK 99 million in support from the Swedish Energy Agency.

The reactor, which is expected to be in operation in 2026, aims to demonstrate and commercialize innovative nuclear technology.

– There are small, compact nuclear power plants that can be manufactured in an automated factory in a much shorter time than today’s reactors. It will be more cost -effective, says Janne Wallenius, professor of reactor physics KTH and co -founder of Blykalla.

The government is also investing in nuclear research 2025–2028, with grants of SEK 600 million- of which SEK 100 million goes to pilot and demonstration projects.

Another SEK 120 million will go to nuclear basic research.
