Cancer doctor about Mel Gibson’s cancer play at Joe Rogan

Unmasking agents and textile paint can cure cancer. This is stated by Mel Gibson in a section of Joe Rogan’s podcast.
A basic statement, according to cancer researcher Per Karlsson.
– It is alarming if people trust more on the type of populist element than on the scientific findings that exist and develop.

When actor Mel Gibson visited Joe Rogan’s podcast, he claimed that three of his friends survived cancer thanks to unmasking agents and textile paint. Program manager Joe Rogan did not question the statement but stated that researchers do not prioritize the treatment methods because there is no financial incentive.

The episode has over nine million views on Youtube. And lately, cancer -sick people have posted viral clips on social media where they test the preparations.

Missing evidence

But there is no scientific evidence that the treatments work, says Per Karlsson, chief physician and professor of oncology at the University of Gothenburg.

– It is not enough with various test tube tests that indicate things, but rigorous clinical trials are required to feel confident that you do not hurt a patient.

However, some of these have never been implemented. Per Karlsson believes that there are risks in painting drugs such as “miracle medicines” – without evidence.

– It can fool many people, and create worse opportunities to prefer the usual treatment available. There are many different treatments and there are many clinical trials that are ongoing. It would rather be that patients should be part of such than something that is out in the blue.

Can be toxic

According to Per Karlsson, the drugs at best have no effect at all. In the worst case, it can have negative consequences.

– There are potential risks that there may be toxic levels.

What do you think about the treatment methods being spread on such a large platform?

– – It does not feel good, and everyone who is public in that way should take responsibility for what you say. Anecdotal cases are one thing, but there must be proven effect in order for it to be used. It is alarming if people trust more on the type of populist element than on the scientific findings that exist and develop.
