A record many were fined for a special crime last year. This is despite the fact that 9 out of 10 Swedes, according to a survey by Novus, have been aware that this act was illegal.
In total, 438 people were fined for scraping down in 2024, which is an increase of 29 percent from the previous year. In recent years, the number of penalties for littering has doubled.

Record many have been fined – despite the knowledge
But what can it be, if Swedes are already aware that it is illegal to debris?
Johanna RagnartzCEO at Keep Sweden Clean, believes that it is an increased knowledge within the police.
– We believe that a record number of junk fines were distributed last year because the knowledge of the cure has been spread within the police, which has led to more police officers choosing to actually use it, says Ragnartz to News24.
Less degradation is, for example, if you throw a Fimp, a chewing gum or a candy paper on the ground and a fine of SEK 800.
– The cure can the police distribute directly on site, explains Ragnartz.

Then one can risk higher penalties
It is precisely this crime, less debris, for which more and more people are fined. However, the penalty can be both more expensive and greater if a more extensive debris applies.
– Anyone who, for example, leaves furniture, tires or large amounts of waste in nature risks up to one year in prison and/or daily fines, Ragnartz tells News24, and continues:
– In addition to these debris, there is also a scale for more serious environmental crimes, for example if you dump large amounts of harmful chemicals in nature.
