Magdalena Forsberg forced to surgery: “I can’t cope anymore”

She is one of Sweden’s big ski heroes.
Now Magdalena Forsberg breaks the silence about the operation that has changed everything.
-Then I said: “I can’t cope,” the 57-year-old tells Expressen.

There are few Swedish athletes who can compete with Magdalena Forsberg. She was so extremely successful and really popular during her active time as biathlon.

Forsberg’s success

She became “Magda” with the entire Swedish people and won six World Cup golds and the total World Cup six years on the rake during 1997-2002. In addition, the legend is the only ever to win the Jerring Prize four times in his career.

Today she is 57 years old and the age has begun to take its right. Now she talks about the operation she felt compelled to do because of a significantly deteriorating vision.
– I don’t know how many glasses I got rid of – or happened to tread for that matter. I have been looking for madness so many times to find them. In addition, I hear poorly and have a hearing aid, so with glasses on top of the scratch it affects how much I hear, she says in an interview with Expressen and also tried with lenses.
– I struggled with them lots, but it didn’t turn out well either. One day, a lens had tied up under my eyelid and it took hours to get them out. Then I said, “Now I shit in this, I can’t cope anymore”.

“Magdas” operation

Magdalena Forsberg lay down on the operating table and underwent a lens exchange operation. Where her biological lenses in the eyes were replaced with artificial counterparts.

The procedure has changed her entire life now, above all, there is a big difference in her everyday life.
-Just a moment after the surgery I picked up the phone to call my husband, then I almost got like an aha experience-because I could see what was on the phone, she admits for the evening newspaper.
– There may be small details, but as when you have to shower in a hotel I can now see if I take soap or shampoo, so I don’t happen to wash my hair with body lotion. Or that I can see what is on the action patch and labels at ICA. It has simplified my life very much.
