Strong support to limit Chinese e-commerce giants

Every fourth Swedish wants to ban Chinese e-commerce giants such as Shein and Temu.
More women than men want to ban companies. Among men, more people instead think that the companies should be punished with customs.

Today it is duty to send packages from China if it is worth less than SEK 1800 and every month there will be huge amounts of goods from e-commerce giants Shein and Temu.
At the same time, the Swedish Chemicals Agency warns that the cheap goods may contain unauthorized high levels of carcinogenic substances.

Every fourth want to ban

According to Novus’s survey, 27 percent of Swedes want e-commerce giants to be completely banned. 36 percent would rather introduce tariffs to limit. 24 percent want it to be as it is now.

Among those who want a ban are the most women – more men want to introduce customs. Young people over 64 years of age want to hinder to a greater extent through customs or prohibitions.

– Maybe you should ban, but I’m unsure, however, I think customs can be good, says Ally Väringstam.

Marcus Lindström is one of those who thinks that tariffs would be good for limiting e-commerce from China.

– It is an unhealthy industry and the arrangement does not make it sustainable, which is against my values, he says.
