Five years ago, something happened that changed Frida Karlsson’s life as a skier.
Now she talks about the tough time, which still made her realize that she needed to do things differently.
– I live as I want and enjoy it very well, she tells Norwegian TV2.
In February 2019 did Frida Karlsson25, her debut in the World Cup for seniors, when she turned seven at 10 km free in Italian cogne. She was quickly painted as a new star in the ski sky, but already in December of that year the outside world was shocked by a boring message.
Frida Karlsson was suspended in 2019
Frida was suddenly stopped by the ski association. She was not allowed to compete and was also forced to pull down on the training. The reason was that she had undergone a health check and showed a result that the union did not accept. She was considered to have health problems.
– She has undergone a health check and there are parameters that together make us make this decision. Which parameters, that’s Frida’s information and we won’t go out with that, said the national team doctor Magnus Oscarsson to Expressen in December 2019.

Frida has previously acknowledged that she had problems getting enough energy in the diet, she suffered from energy shortages several times.
– When we see that it is a limit that you go over, we take action directly. Then we ensure that she can come back and get into balance nutritionally, said the acting length manager Ola Strömberg to SVT in connection with the decision.
– Right now I’m very sad and disappointed. It is easy to stress up but you have to see it long -term. I’ll do everything I can to be back in the competition track at the same time as I want to last many years to come, Frida said.
Frida Karlsson’s lessons from the incident
Now it has been a little more than five years since the incident. In an interview with the Norwegian TV channel TV2, Frida Karlsson talks about how she learned from what happened in 2019 and how her life changed for the better. When she did not meet the national team’s health requirements, she went down mentally and had to fight hard to get back.
– My role models when I was little were always the ones who pressed themselves and went all out. I think it was cool to test the boundaries. That’s what gave me the biggest kick. Sometimes I have crossed the limit, she says.

Today she trains and lives in a different way. Unlike before, it is not titles, medals and records that drive her. Now she just wants to feel good.
– My motivation has changed since I was very young. Then it was just about winning the next competition. I wanted to win. That was the motivation. Now I see more motivation in everyday life, that I really enjoy it and have a good time. For me, it has made more and more bearable. I used to sacrifice everything every day, but now I don’t experience it the same way. I live as I want and enjoy it very well, ”she says and continues:
– You have to have balance in everything, and that was the first eye opener for me. You can’t just tread on the gas, and I’ve learned a lot since then. It was a long time ago now, and you learn more and more every year.
So good that you could come back even stronger after what happened, Frida. It shows that you are a fight who knows what you want and who does what it takes to get there. Good luck in the World Cup!
