Details and Cancellation of the Apple N107 project
Apple’s AR glasses developed under the code name N107 aimed to allow users to create a large virtual monitor anywhere. These glasses, who wanted to offer a similar experience to the features offered by Vision Pro, had a light design that did not require headband and worked with screens in the lenses. It was also said to have innovative features such as glasses, such as lenses that show whether the user was busy from the outside.
However, the technical and economic difficulties in the development phase led to the termination of the project. The glasses, which were initially planned to be connected to the iPhone, were redesigned to be connected to Mac due to high energy consumption. However, this change resulted in the fact that Apple managers were not satisfied in the tests.
This cancellation led to question marks on Apple’s plans in augmented reality and mixed reality. In 2023, the company ended a different Arglass project and suspended the development of Vision Pro 2 and started to work on a more affordable Vision Pro model.
Rival companies continue to progress rapidly in AR and XR technologies. In 2024, Meta reached 1 million sales with Ray-Ban smart glasses, while in CES 2025, many companies introduced their new generation of smart glasses. Google is working on a new title titled Project Moohan, Samsung de project Moohan.
