Syria’s new leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa is on his way to Saudi Arabia for his first official visit, says Hans Stab.
Ahmed Al-Sharaa led the overthrow of dictator Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December. Earlier this week, he was formally named the country’s transitional president, and will form a transitional government until a new constitution comes into place.
Syrian authorities hope that the wealthy Gulf states will help finance the reconstruction of the war -torn country. Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman were also among the first to congratulate Al-Shara on the presidential appointment.
