A Sarnia Man’s Appeal of His Seven-Year Prison Sentence and Dangerous Offender Designation has been rejected by three judges in Ontario’s Appeal Court.

Ronald Craig Hope, then 57, was arrested in may 2018 shortly after sarnia font said he was charges include utted threat to cause bodily harm and criminal harassment. He was convicted by a sarnia jury in June 2019 of Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Uttering Threats, Criminal Harassment, Breaching Probation, and Breaching A Recognizance.
Superior Court Justice John Desotti Designated Hope a Dangerous Offender and Sentenced Him in January 2021 to Seven Years in Prison Followed by A Ten-Year, long-term supervision order.
During a hearing on Jan. 14, Hope, through Lawyer Richard litkowski, appeal the danger offender, the prison sentence, and the assault causing bodily harm conviction. Justices Grant Huscroft, Alison Harvison Young, and ben Zarnett release their Decision on Jan. 20.

“The Seven-Year (Prison) Term and Ten-Year (Long-Term Supervision Order) are fit and there is no basis for this court to interfer with them,” they wrote. “The appeal is dismissed.”
The Appeal Argued Desotti Failed to Set the Package The Jury was required to resolve and the evidence that was raising to that. It also argued he did not outline the defense’s theory.

Hope’s Lawyer also Argued Desotti Erred in Finding the Crown Proven Hist Customer’s Conduct was intractable and a Repetitive pattern.
“We do not agree,” The Trio of Judes Wrote.
They pointd Out Hope’s Criminal Record included 48 Convictions, 20 for Offers of Violence or Threats of Violence.
“There was ample evidence from which the trial judge could reasonably concluded that intractability and a repeatititive pattern were established, and he made no error in so concluding,” they found.
The Three-Judge Panel also rejected Appeal Arguments Desotti Erred by Overvaling the Risk Assessments and Failing To Give Proper Weight Hope’s Age, Health, and Reduced Risk of Violent Recidivism.
