Bloodborne from 2015 is one of the best games in the PS4 generation. Due to technical deficits, many fans have wanted a modernized new edition for PS5 or the PC for years. A hope that is fueled by Sony equally and troubled with feet.
Why a remaster for Bloodborne? As great as the action RPG from from software is in its original form, there is room for improvement in technical terms-especially with a view to performance.
Thanks to a next gene update and a PC port with constant 60 frames per second on the platform of his choice through the atmospheric yharnam, many fans do not want more. But of course the announcements of a remaster, remake or a sequel would also be celebrated frenetically.
Hope is fueled because almost all important “souls” games for various platforms have now appeared or they have given Sony a modern new edition (Demon’s Souls).
The PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls is a real graphics board:
As if you want to annoy fans in a targeted manner
What does Sony do? There are rumors for possible announcements for Bloodborne every year. Partly through supposed leaks or insider reports, partly because Sony does something that could indicate a new edition of the PS4 milestone.
In December 2024, for example, the PlayStation group published an anniversary trailer that shows scenes from well-known franchises such as Horizon, Uncharted, God of War or Spider-Man, accompanied by a sentence that takes up one of the topics just shown. Metal Gear Solid is about honor, at God of War about family.
Bloodborne can be seen in the very last gameplay scene of the trailer, flanked by the text: “It’s about persistence”. On the one hand, this is of course something that distinguishes all of the Souls games of From software, but on the other hand, many fans also felt triggered, who have persistently waiting for news about Bloodborne franchise for many years.
What does the community do? She tries to help itself. For example with fan trailers that show places from Bloodborne in the Unreal Engine 5 (for example here on YouTube). Or with patches that fans can use to use the game’s weaknesses independently. Lance McDonald’s 60-FPS patch has even been around for almost four years.
Hach … Bloodborne:
Attack on fan patch after 4 years
New campaign by Sony: It is all the more remarkable that McDonald received a DMCA announcement from Sony Interactive Entertainment for his long-established patch on January 31, 2025 (DMCA is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act from 1998, which is to protect the copyright online).
The mod developer writes on X: “On February 21, 2021, I created and published a patch for Bloodborne, which runs the game with 60 fps. Today I received a DMCA notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in which I was asked to remove the links to the patch I have published on the Internet, which I have now done. “
A post on X by Lance McDonald on October 11, 2024 shows that the Sony managers have been knowing for a long time. There is a picture with the former Playstation boss Shuhei Yoshida, with which McDonald just before his 60- FPS-Patch had spoken.
The big question is of course now: Why now?
Speaking of Sony: In the meantime, more and more former Playstation-exclusive titles are also moving in on the PC. In the past, Sony had caused outrage among the players. Now Sony reacts to the criticism again and offers an alternative: Sony rowing back in a controversial decision for PC games, players want to lure them into their PSN in any other way
