One of the big drawbacks of electric cars is about to disappear. A manufacturer has just launched a model that recharges in just 10 minutes, for a full time on a thermal vehicle.
If electric cars are growing, they still suffer from a major problem that slow down their massive adoption: the recharge time of their battery. Indeed, without even talking about their real autonomy, which varies enormously according to their technical characteristics and weather conditions, many motorists have trouble getting used to having to wait half an hour to recharge them on a terminal ” Quick “when a few minutes are enough to fill up on a thermal vehicle in a service station.
Fortunately, the manufacturers, well aware of this problem, are making immense efforts to accelerate the operation and make electric cars as practical as traditional models. And if we often talk about Tesla and her famous increasingly numerous supercomputers on the roads, it is on the side of China that the situation seems to progress with a fast, with promises that could very quickly change the given.
This is how a Chinese manufacturer still little known has just broke an impressive record: its ZEEKR 7X, a new generation electric SUV, recharging from 10 to 80 % in just 10 minutes, or a time similar to that of a full fuel on a thermal car. A real feat that could transform the electric cars market.
Equipped with a 75 kWh battery capable of supporting a charging power up to 412 kW, the 7X ZEEKR surpasses all its current rivals. For comparison, models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Ioniq 6, often mentioned for their fast recharging, require about 18 minutes to reach 80 % battery, with a power of 225 to 277 kW. Even the new Emeya GT, one of the fastest models in Europe, puts 14 minutes for similar recharge.
Zeekr’s promise is not just a communication stroke. Tests carried out in real conditions in China confirm the capabilities of the 7X. During a test, the car went from 0 to 70 % in just 10 minutes, reaching 450 kW load peaks. Even after 80 %, it continues to load for a power of 250 kW, which remains superior to the performance of many models available in Europe. This makes the ZEEKR 7X particularly suitable for long journeys, where quick stops become almost comparable to those of a thermal car.
And the ZEEKR 7X will not remain confined to China. Its manufacturer, a subsidiary of the Geely group, which also has brands deemed such as Volvo or Lotus, announces its arrival in Europe for the summer of 2025, first in the Nordic countries, notably Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway, where demand for electric cars is already high. The starting price for the 7X should be around 53,000 euros, a competitive positioning against competitors like Tesla or the electric models of Mercedes.
With this advance, rapid electric recharge in Europe could become a reality in the near future. If the infrastructure follows, with the installation of charging stations powerful enough to use the full potential of these cars, the 7X ZEEKR may well change the situation and further accelerate the transition to electric mobility. The challenge for other manufacturers will now be to meet this new standard of speed and efficiency, under penalty of being left in the race for innovation.
