This gave Australia 1-0 against Sweden when the first qualifying round for the Davis Cup began in a crowded royal hall in Stockholm. After the first day, Australia leads 2-0.
It started dramatically that Ymer had to run out and spew just before the match.
– I was quite nervous, says Ymer who showed no signs of weakness when the match started to SVT Sport.
– It was fantastic. I played pretty well in the beginning but got tired. He showed that he is there (world eight) and I did not hang out today but I look ahead, says Ymer.
“Had not dared to dream of”
When Ymer dropped 30-0 and was broken to 5-6 in the first set, they linked Minaur grip on the match.
– As he played for half an hour in the first set, I had not dared to dream of, says SVT Sports expert Magnus Gustafsson about Ymer’s efforts.
– I knew he was going to be a tough opponent, has always been a fantastic player and will come back in no time. I am very happy to have won for Australia, says the Minaur, whose team received great support from a loud heel.
In the second single, Aleksandar won Vukic against Leo Borg by 6-4, 6–4.
Last week, Ymer made a comeback after the 18-month doping closure, where he lost his ranking, by winning a tournament on the lower ranked ITF tour in Luxembourg.
Alex de Minaur comes from a successful Australian Open where he went to the quarterfinals and was knocked out by the final winner Jannik Sinner.
The winner of the meeting in the Royal Hall goes to a second qualifying round in mid -September. The winner in the meeting where either Belgium or Chile is waiting will go to the playoffs in November where eight nations go.
