    400 employees in 14 workplaces are currently testing to work less – and the result is largely only positive.

    -You have already felt that you are feeling better, says project manager Anna-Carin Alderin.

    The study, which has been going on since November, is briefly about working a little less, but that the workplace results should still be the same. Working smarter, explains Anna-Carin Alderin, project manager.

    You work 80 percent of the time – some have chosen to be vacant one day a week, others to work shorter days and some run a combination of both. However, this does not mean that every individual should stress and try to deliver 100 percent in just 80 percent of the time, explains Anna-Carin Alderin.

    – I think it is a common preconceived sense that it will be more stressful. But it is not about doing exactly what I have done before, but that is the result of the whole. Just that we get a lower sick leave and that we can find and retain staff in the company, only there have we earned some of these 20 percent.

    In Germany, for example, it has been found that the participants are less stressed. Both how they experience it – and physically measurable.

    – But if you make no changes and just think we should do everything as before. Then it can be perceived as more stressful. But we don’t see that.

    More energy

    The workplaces that are involved, including several units within the City of Gothenburg and less private companies in the country, have so far experienced the test as positive.

    – You have already felt that you are feeling better. You feel more energetic or have built in more energy in the form of having more recovery. And very much joy, it feels like.

    The Facts Study 4 Day Week

    4 Day Week Sweden is an initiative led by Pecel, on the initiative of Karlstad University together with the Stockholm School of Economics.

    The study is part of a global study in which many countries are involved.

    The project has been going on in Sweden since November 2024 and will last throughout 2025, so even more workplaces are about to participate. Today, 14 workplaces are included.

    The purpose is to explore how a shorter work week can create a sustainable work environment and increase both well -being and productivity. The model means working 80 percent of the time, but that the result for the company or organization should be 100 percent in the end.

    Some workplaces work four days a week, other shorter days. Some combine the different working methods.

    Hope to be the future

    Exactly when the final result of the Swedish study comes is unclear, but already this summer the first participants have made their six test months so that you can see if it worked. The hope is that the study will be able to form the basis for decision -making in the future.

    – In any case, I think we will work more flexibly in the future, that we will have more different models about how and when we work. We already see this today after the pandemic that we have greater flexibility in where we work.
