Developer of a MMO intervenes on Steam because a battle just doesn’t want to end – then a final attack follows

In an MMO on Steam, players fought for 70 days in a relentless war, which finally ended by a single attack

What kind of game is that? Foxhole is a sandbox MMO in World War II, which celebrated its full release on Steam in September 2022 after it was previously playable in early access for almost 5 years. The MMO is played in an ISO perspective. That means you look at your character from an angle.

In Foxhole, one of two armies joins her and fights in a constant war that can last for several days or weeks. A war is only over when a page has collected enough points by checking map areas.

During the fighting, every player is part of the huge machinery, with not every player fighting on the front. Some deal with the production of ammunition, others prepare newcomers for the war. The right strategy is an important aspect of success.

There are controllable war machines such as tanks and ships as well as infantry fights in a persistent, that is permanently existing. The events of the battle can therefore have an effect days or weeks later.

Developers have to intervene because a battle just doesn’t want to end

What kind of battle was that? A war lasted over 2 months on the Foxhole Charlie server. It was only after 71 days and 9 million folded characters a winner of the relentless battle.

On January 27, 2025, the developers announced on the official Foxhole Discord server that they wanted to take measures to lead the war on Charlie to an early end. For this purpose, the developers wanted to lower the minimum of the points required for victory on January 31.

But before the developer’s measure was implemented, the players gathered for a final attack and one side won the hard -fought victory. One player summarizes on Reddit:

“The war ended because the developers all brought them to the same side. They mainly took care of the planning and brought everyone together for an operation at the same time. People disposed of their supplies and dared a massive advance that they should have done before, but they lacked confidence/manpower. […] When everyone came back for a last hurray, the war was over. The upcoming end of the war brought the many burned -out players back and the war was over. ”

Why did the developers want to intervene? On the Foxhole Discord server, the developers explained that they were concerned with the gaming experience of new players who, within the past month, joined the Charlie server.

New players should have the gaming experience as it is intended-from the early phase and the first preparations for the mid-game to the end. However, since the war had lasted over 2 months and did not seem to be found, it was not possible. Anyone who was new to the server could only experience a battle that was running for weeks and months.
